Do you know Namit Malhotra? India’s new poster boy at Oscars.

Namit Malhotra is the Indian origin CEO of DNEG, the VFX company that bagged an Academy Award for Dune, at Oscars 2022.

Denis Villeneuve’s science-fiction epic Dune swept a handful of the awards at the Academy Awards 2022, including the Oscar for the Best Visual Effects.


Dune is based on Frank Herbert’s celebrated sci-fi novel by the same name. The movie boasted of a starry ensemble cast. Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem are  part of the film.

Daniel Craig-starrer James Bond movie, No Time to Die, was also being serviced by DNEG with VFX and it was nominated for the category as well.

Namit’s organisation is the proud winner of several Academy Awards. Over the years, DNEG has received the Oscars for Best Visual Effects category for the films like — Inception (2012), Interstellar (2015), Ex Machina (2016), Blade Runner 2049 (2018), First Man (2019) and Tenet (2021).

 
Earlier, Malhotra had spoken about the nominations in an interview. He said, “It’s a great feeling. It’s the first James Bond movie to get a nomination in this particular category in many, many years. Dune, on the other hand, is the new benchmark of visual effects in storytelling”.


DNEG is known for films and TV Shows like The Dark Knight Rises, Sherlock Holmes, Dunkirk, Altered Carbon, Chernobyl, Last Night In Soho, Foundation, and many more.

Namit has a Bollywood connect. His Father is a producer, Naresh Malhotra and Namit is the grandson of Ace cinematographer M N Malhotra.

Several important personalities wished Namit for his success at the Oscars. Anurag Thakur, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, GOI also tweeted congratulating Namit and DNEG He tweeted, “Congratulations to DNEG,VFX & Animation Studio led via CEO Namit Malhotra on winning the #Oscar in the ‘Best Visual Effects’ category for their team’s work on Dune! India is leading the way in the AVGC sector, we’re geared up to meet the global demand w/ our innovations & talent.”
