Gudi Padwa: Customs in 2024

An oil bath marks the start of the day on Gudi Padwa, and some unusual prayers mark its conclusion. Devotees also eat neem leaves with jaggery or other seeds. After getting an oil bath, devotees decorate their homes with rangoli and other springtime-themed items.

Following this, a few traditional rituals are performed, like an auspicious puja to honor Lord Brahma and a havan to offer prayers to Lord Vishnu and his incarnations.

Maharashtra women, on the other hand, commemorate the day by creating exquisite “Gudi” in their homes and worshiping them.

Built from an upside-down kettle of silver or copper, adorned with yellow fabric, and balanced atop a bamboo staff, Gudi is essentially a flag.
