‘I have no words,’ says elated Indian-American Singer Falguni Shah, on her Grammy win

Indian-American singer Falguni Shah, more famous as ‘’Falu’ won a Grammy Award for A Colorful World for the Best Children’s Album.

Falu expressed her delight on social media. Sharing pics from the 2022 Grammys, Falu wrote, “I have no words to describe today’s magic. What an honor to perform for the opening number of the GRAMMY Premier Ceremony, and then take home a statue on behalf of all the incredible people who worked on A Colorful World. We are humbled and thank the Recording Academy for this tremendous recognition. THANK YOU!” (sic)

Falu was selected over fellow nominees 123 Andres, 1 Tribe Collective, Pierce Freelon, Lucky Diaz, and the Family Jam Band for the trophy.

A known name in the Indian music scenario as well, Falu has, over the years, collaborated and performed with the likes of AR Rahman and international musicians like Wyclef Jean, Philip Glass, Ricky Martin, Blues Traveler, and Yo-Yo Ma.

She is also the only Indian-origin woman to be nominated in the Best Children’s Music Album category at the Grammys twice. She was nominated in the same category for her 2018 album Falu’s Bazaar.

In a previous interview, Falu has said her training in classical music – in the Jaipur musical tradition and the Banaras style of Thumri – has helped her immensely in establishing herself as a musician to reckon with.
