The UK invites applications from Indian women for a chance to be ‘High Commissioner for a Day.
The British High Commission is giving Indian women the chance to spend a day in the life of a senior UK diplomat. The competition is being held across all of India on October 11 to celebrate International Day of the Girl Child. Applicants must be Indian-born women between the ages of 18 and 23. By making and posting a one-minute video answering the question,” How can immature people help lead the way in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?” interested individuals can apply for a chance to lead the political charge for a day. The forenamed video must be posted on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn with the hashtag #DayOfTheGirl and the handle @UKinIndia. The deadline for online entries is August 18, and each party is only permitted one entry. This time, the periodic competition “High Commissioner for a Day” will centre on the Sustainable Development Goals, which aspire to improve the earth for all people, similar to how India is handling its G20 presidency.
“I’m constantly astounded by the eventuality of this nation, and I have no mistrust that the smart youth of India will lead the movement for a better future in the times to come,” the British High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis, claimed in a statement. He also stated that women and girls are needed to help immature people around the world reach their full potential in terms of solving the world’s most burning problems. The entries must be submitted by filling out an online form on the website by August 18 (one entry per party). The winner will also be chosen by a British High Commission jury and publicised on the @UKinIndia social media channels.
The High Commission said that it would pay for the winner’s trip to Delhi as part of the competition in the event that the High Commissioner for a Day programme was not held in Delhi or NCR. The High Commissioner for a Day’ competition is a periodic event run by the British High Commission that began in 2017.
Jagriti Yadav, a 20-year-old from Lucknow who won the competition the previous time, participated in a variety of political duties, including leading meetings with various stakeholders, moderating debates, and attending multiple events throughout the day. She interacted with Meenakshi Lekhi, Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture; Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire; and Rishad Premji, Executive Chairman of Wipro. Along with Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, the star Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, Jagriti also launched a book featuring 75 Indian women in Brume (Science, Technology, Engineering, Trades, and Mathematics).
