When the Lone Tree Burns

When the Lone Tree Burns

When the Lone Tree Burns

In the darkness of solitude,
a tree fought in silence.

Did it plant dreams
deep into its roots,
believing it would stand
forever?

The sparks of fire
are but the reply
to its resistance.

Green leaves dissolve
into the red of flames—
each breath
becoming a final note.

On the lips of the wind,
you turn into
a great cry.

On the crown of the earth
lies your pain.

The proud heights
that gave shelter to birds,
the branches
that filled vessels of rain—

no more today,
never again tomorrow,
your coolness,
your compassion.

When the lone tree burns,
who will hear
its silent cry?

In the waves of fire,
the notes of your life
vanish without a trace.

The sky brims with ashes,
while at the roots—
will there sprout again,
in the soil of compassion,
a tender green shoot?

Your smoldering remnants,
will they transform
into a dream of green?

When the lone tree burns,
an entire world
watches
with blood-red eyes
that fire!!!
