Easter, which comes after 40 days of Lent, is a time when millions of Christians commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Easter Sunday also signifies the conclusion of Lent and Holy Week.Easter, however, comes a little early this year and falls on a different day every year.Easter is on Sunday, March 31, 2024.
However, how is the holiday decided, and why is it occurring sooner than usual?
Experts claim that it is related to a full moon.
Why is this year’s Easter earlier?
Among the several “moveable feasts” in the liturgical year is the Easter celebration.Easter is usually celebrated on the first Sunday following the Paschal Moon, that is, the first Sunday after the full moon that falls on or around the spring equinox, or on March 1.
To make things simple, take note that the Christian Church usually uses March 21 as the spring equinox date.
Easter is based on the lunar cycles; therefore, its date can change, unlike Christmas, which is set in stone according to a solar calendar.
