Interesting Change In The World: The Indian Is Everywhere
From The Editor’s Desk
There was a time when the Indian diaspora was spoken of with a sense of distance. It was about memory, identity, and connection across borders. It was about staying rooted while living far away.
That idea has evolved.
Today, the Indian diaspora is not on the margins of the world. It is part of the centre of it.
This edition of World For You comes at a time when the global landscape is shifting in quiet but meaningful ways. Power is changing form. Influence is moving across new spaces. Voices that were once less visible are now shaping decisions, ideas, and direction. In many of these spaces, the Indian presence is steady and significant.
Our cover story reflects this change clearly. The Indian diaspora is not just participating in global systems. It is helping shape them. Across business, governance, technology, and culture, there is a growing sense of confidence and contribution that cannot be ignored.
At the same time, the world is going through a phase of uncertainty. Democratic systems are being tested. Public trust is not as strong as it once was. There is a visible slowdown in how institutions respond to people’s needs. The idea of representation is changing, and in some places, weakening.
In this context, developments such as India’s new OCI rules and the proposed pause on H-1B visas need to be seen as part of a larger pattern. They are not isolated policy decisions. They reflect how countries are rethinking identity, mobility, and access.
For overseas Indians, these changes are not abstract. They affect everyday realities. They shape how people move, work, and stay connected to India. They also raise deeper questions. What does belonging mean today? How do you balance identity across countries that are becoming more cautious about movement?
Beyond these questions, there are stories that remind us of something essential.
In Gujarat, a villager builds a solar-powered car using scrap materials and basic tools. It is simple, practical, and effective. It reflects a mindset that is deeply familiar. The ability to adapt, to solve problems, and to move forward without waiting for ideal conditions.
This spirit is visible across this edition.
We revisit the African-Indian diaspora and explore histories that deserve greater attention. We look at health through practical perspectives that focus on everyday well-being. We examine changing lifestyles, especially for Indians living abroad, and the choices that shape modern identity.
There is also space for reflection. Through poetry, culture, travel, and spirituality, we pause to consider questions that do not always have direct answers but remain important.
In sports, we see individuals of Indian origin making their mark on global stages while staying connected to their roots. In science and technology, we see innovation that is not always driven by large institutions but by individuals who think differently.
This is what WFY stands for.
We aim to bring together stories, ideas, and perspectives that reflect the world as it is, and as it is becoming.
The Indian today is global, yet connected. Adaptable, yet grounded. Present across geographies, yet rooted in identity.
That is where the real story lies.
Not in loud statements, but in consistent presence. Not in visibility alone, but in meaningful contribution.
As you go through this edition, we invite you to look at these connections closely. Between policy and people. Between innovation and necessity. Between identity and change.
The world is evolving.
And the Indian is very much a part of that journey.
