Kerala is leading India’s new migration of healthcare talent

According to a report, Kerala leads India’s migration of healthcare talent to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, particularly the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where demand is expected to increase 3.3-fold by 2023.

According to data from blue-collar worker platform Huntr, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh are the leading states in terms of healthcare worker migration to MENA countries, including nurses, doctors, and laboratory technicians.

The report is based on data from the Huntr platform and Middle Eastern employer organisations in 2022 and 2023.

The UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar are the most popular destinations for Indian healthcare professionals looking for work.

According to the report, these countries provide attractive incentives such as extended residency visas, financial benefits, and cutting-edge healthcare infrastructure.
“Rapid globalisation has created opportunities for extensive global mobility, and this report demonstrates India’s critical role in meeting MENA countries’ rising healthcare talent demands.

The increase in migration from states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh represents a significant shift in the region’s healthcare landscape. “With Huntr’s innovative solutions and stakeholder collaboration, we’re poised to drive additional growth and development in the MENA healthcare sector,” Huntr CEO Samuel Joy stated.

The report also revealed that employers in MENA countries are looking for candidates with specific skills and qualifications, such as experience in regional sales, distributor management, and project management.

Furthermore, there is a high demand for healthcare professionals with credentials ranging from diplomas to advanced degrees in nursing and medicine.

The majority of healthcare workers migrating from India to the MENA region are in their early 30s, with a noticeable increase in the number of male nurses joining the traditionally female-dominated workforce, according to the report.
