Exploring the elegance of riding as a captivating form of artistic expression
Art can emerge from any endeavour approached with passion and dedication. For Miraya, equestrian sport transcends mere competition; it is a breathtaking expression of artistry. The sport captivates the eye with its stunning visuals. It is truly a form of artistry. Precision and harmony abound in this captivating exploration.
Miraya’s intimate connection with horses has allowed her to develop a profound understanding of these magnificent creatures. “Mastering a range of technical skills is essential, including the ability to maintain focus and effectively communicate with the horse.”
At the heart of forging meaningful connections lies mutual respect, a cornerstone that plays a pivotal role in the world of horse riding. This dynamic relationship between rider and horse is essential for a harmonious experience in the saddle. Interpreting the state of a horse’s mind is a delicate endeavour, much like understanding the mood of a friend or partner. “From offering a sweet carrot to tacking up your horse, the process of putting on the saddle and bridle reveals much about your horse’s mood, energy levels, and overall feelings on any given day.”
By drawing parallels, she explains, “You can discern how the boss is feeling.” Gradually, you begin to decipher the nuances of body language. At the heart of this partnership lies a foundation of trust and the power of clear communication. It’s all about dedicating time and effort— creating those moments together that truly matter.
Every day, she immerses herself in rigorous and relentless rehearsals, a testament to her unwavering dedication. “I depart from my residence at approximately 5 o’clock.” Arriving at the riding school or stables around 5:30 AM, I find myself with a precious 20 minutes to bond with the horse and prepare for the upcoming 6 AM class. Ten minutes before class, I find myself atop the horse, allowing him to take in the sights of the arena as we stroll together. According to her, the training focuses on essential groundwork, pull work, and the importance of stretching.
This sport is frequently perceived as an activity reserved for the affluent, largely because of the significant expenses associated with training, equipment, and the care of horses. In a notable development, the 15-year-old reveals that the state government has recognised their achievements. “This recognition is significant for the sport and contributes to its growth.” In Chennai, the spotlight is on a school that is making waves for its commitment to accessibility. As more individuals discover its offerings, the conversation around inclusive education continues to grow. Exciting news is on the horizon as we welcome an impressive lineup of exceptional horses and talented trainers. Across India, numerous arenas meet international standards, providing ample opportunities for competition.
“Last year marked a significant milestone as it was the first time riding was officially recognised as a sport, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have been among the riders acknowledged,” she shares. Her remarkable talent and unwavering determination have garnered recognition from the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, which has honoured her under their prestigious High Cash Incentive Scheme, designed for emerging athletes.
