THAT GIRL – A poem by Rema Pisharody

Between the ramparts of heart and mind hides a girl
Holding a star she plucked from the sky
Mountains she conquered for none to see
But to know how earth paints the edges in a wily cliff
Mermaids from ocean glanced at her in dreamy eyes,
Tedious waves frolicked in haste,
Cenotaphs welcomed her to be part of her story
Bells from towers grieved on her sorrows
Shadows with no shape or name tried to pin her down
A dream or two she lost in mishaps,
Where the symphony of seasons lifted her soul
Elated she found the magic of a tree that entrenched so deep
In soil, in rain her she rinsed her fears
And in subtle form blossomed a spring
Miles apart from the promontory of hope
A new day is born from the ashes of darkest fears
For birds to sing and for the hopeless to hope
For a while it sounds fresh with no noise
Except her heartbeats more like a tender prayer
In silence, from the holy compartments of life
She emerges holding nothing but her own promise
As if she is the same girl she missed somewhere
In the catamarans of a stormy voyage;
A mirror image, the smile, the spark, the vision
All same..
