Vivek Ramaswamy makes the pioneering contender for the US presidency

Vivek Ramaswamy, the Indian-American candidate for the Republican nomination for president of the United States of America, has gained prominence among his party’s conservatives. He is currently tied with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for second place, according to recent polling data published by the US-based magazine The Hill on Tuesday.

Both Ronald Dion DeSantis and Ramaswamy, as indicated by an Emerson College poll, are currently at 10% approval ratings, underperforming the front-runner, former President Donald Trump, who holds a decisive advantage of 56 percent. The Emerson College Polling statistics reveal a significant shift in support, with DeSantis experiencing a significant decline below his prior position of 21% and now aligning with Ramaswamy at 10%. Surprisingly, Ramaswamy has moved up to second place thanks to a remarkable rise in his popularity from just 2%.

Comparing DeSantis’ supporters to Ramaswamy’s supporters, who were seen to have more persistent support, polling experts also found that DeSantis supporters were less certain. According to The Hill’s study, nearly half of Ramaswamy’s followers said they would definitely vote for him, compared to only about a third of DeSantis’ backers, who showed a similar level of certainty.

On the other hand, more than 80% of Trump’s fans declared their steadfast intention to continue backing the outgoing president. A leaked memo credited to the super PAC “Never Back Down,” which has been a prominent supporter of DeSantis’ campaign, surfaced at the same time following the poll’s disclosure. The metaphoric advice to “take a sledgehammer” to Ramaswamy’s campaign, as highlighted by The Hill, is apparently part of the document that reportedly pushed DeSantis to take a tough position against Gandhi.

Ramaswamy’s attractiveness has undergone some notable modifications, according to Spencer Kimball, the director of Emerson College Polling. According to an official announcement, Ramaswamy has significantly increased his popularity among people with higher educational degrees, garnering the support of 17% of this group. Furthermore, according to the submitted complaint, he has received a significant 16% approval rating from voters under the age of 35.  

Additionally, a comparison between DeSantis’ drop and the findings of Emerson’s New Hampshire survey was made in the statement. According to this poll, DeSantis and Republican former New Jersey governor Chris Christie were tied statistically for second place in the state after Christie edged out DeSantis by only one point.  Among the specific changes noticed, DeSantis saw a substantial decrease in his support from voters with postgraduate degrees, who dropped from 38% in June to just 14% in the most comprehensive evaluation. According to The Hill, he also received just 15% of the vote from voters under the age of 35.

Due in large part to Vivek Ramaswamy’s involvement, Indian viewers are paying closer attention to this political spectacle as the 2024 US presidential election campaigns are in full swing. Ramaswamy, who was born in the US to Indian parents, is vying for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination in the next election.  Nikki Haley, a former governor of South Carolina and representative for the United States to the UN who is also a potential nominee of Indian descent, is also a contender, but Ramaswamy has received more media attention overall. Elon Musk, a prominent businessperson, joined the conversation and recently announced his endorsement of Ramaswamy.  

The chances of Ramaswamy winning the 2024 presidential election remain modest, despite his obvious dedication to the cause. In truth, his chances of winning the Republican Party’s nomination are also extremely slim. Ramaswamy is well behind in polls of Republican supporters, where former President Donald Trump commands a resounding lead. However, there are a few cases where he is able to come in second in terms of claimed money control, albeit still below Trump.
