Late Sculptor Saroj Jain’s Legacy Celebrated with ‘Saroj Jain Sculpture Awards’ for Contemporary Students
WFY Bureau, New Delhi: The retrospective exhibition of the late sculptor Saroj Jain, titled “Saroj Jain: The Silence Within,” concluded on April 3, 2023, at the Shridharani Gallery & Sculpture Court in Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi. The event attracted numerous art enthusiasts from across India who were captivated by the inspiring body of works displayed at the gallery. The exhibition celebrated the life and work of the highly respected sculptor Saroj Jain, who passed away in February 2022.
Jain’s retrospective exhibition showcased her unique style of cubist sculpture, which she had developed over four decades of her illustrious career. The exhibition featured a diverse range of Jain’s sculptures, including some of her most iconic works, giving the visitors an opportunity to experience her exceptional talent in modern sculpture.
During the exhibition, the Prem Jain Memorial Trust announced the establishment of the “Saroj Jain Sculpture Awards” in some of the most prominent fine arts institutions of India. The award aims to recognize and encourage contemporary sculpture students, and PJMT will be presenting it to three of the most creative and promising BFA and MFA students every year. The award was instituted in 2023 in Vishwa Bharti Santiniketan, Sir JJ School of Arts, Mumbai, and Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi, and the trust is in talks with several other iconic institutions in India.
The retrospective exhibition was a befitting tribute to the late artist, and it brought together the entire community of renowned painters and sculptors to pay homage to her legacy. The exhibition was inaugurated by Padma Shri Prof Biman B. Das, who praised the exhibition and the works of Saroj Jain. Visitors were equally impressed, with art lover Disha Patel expressing a desire to see more of Saroj Jain’s work, while Anurag Goel from Delhi found the exhibition to be a blend of beauty, calm, and sincerity.
Overall, the exhibition was a resounding success, and it served as a reminder of the significant contributions of Saroj Jain to the world of art.
