Unexpected Latest in Sri Lanka, A Stamp Commemorating Indian-origin Tamils
In what could be interpreted as an attempt to court Tamil choosers ahead of the 2024 original government choices, BJP public chairman JP Nadda issued a stamp commemorating 200 times the number of Indian-origin Tamils living in Sri Lanka.
“This is truly a major occasion when we flash back on the extreme rigors endured by the people of the Madras Presidency who were taken to Quondam Ceylon by the British and their long struggle to gain quality and recognition,” Nadda said at the BJP central office-based function.
Reiterating the Modi government’s commitment, Nadda added that both the government and the BJP are deeply committed to the welfare and substance of Indian-origin Tamils in Sri Lanka.
“We’ve been working relentlessly to give them casing, healthcare, and other introductory musts, icing their ease of living,” he said, adding that after becoming Prime Minister in 2014, Narendra Modi visited Jaffna in Sri Lanka and promised pucca houses for Indian-origin Tamils.
“That is when our people got the occasion to live a life with quality in Sri Lanka,” he said, adding that the PM promised 14,000 pucca houses for Indian-origin Tamils in Sri Lanka during his visit to Jaffna in 2017 and delivered on that pledge to a large extent.
Nadda stated, citing colourful references, that the British forced them (the Tamils in Sri Lanka now) to resettle to Sri Lanka after they began profitable conditioning there and wanted them to work in a variety of fields. Nadda assured that the BJP-led government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is authentically concerned about the welfare of Tamils in Sri Lanka and recognizes their contribution to the country’s structural development.
Senthil Thondaman, governor of Sri Lanka’s Eastern Province, was present at the function as a special guest and praised the PM’s concern for Tamils in Sri Lanka. “I thank Prime Minister Modi for his backing in rebuilding Sri Lanka during a profitable period and in minding for Indian-origin Tamils.” “Indian-origin Tamils are the third-largest ethnic group in Sri Lanka,” Nadda said.
The stamp was issued to celebrate the benefactions of Indian-origin Tamils in Sri Lanka and the creation of the colony assiduity, primarily on the island of Sri Lanka. According to a conservative estimate, the majority of Tamils of Indian origin live in Sri Lanka’s northern and eastern businesses, where Tamil is their native language.
