Policy to safeguard interests of Punjabi diaspora soon: NRI Minister.
He said this policy, when it comes into effect, will also ensure that the Indian diaspora can get all their work done in a seamless.
Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Punjab’s NRI Affairs’ Minister said the government is working on a comprehensive policy that will help safeguard the interests of non-resident Indians.
The policy, at the drafting stage right now, will be ready in two weeks, he said, adding that it will then be discussed with key members of the NRI community before being presented to the Punjab CM for approval.
The policy will also ensure NRI contribution in the all-round development of villages in Punjab. The AAP government, said Kuldeep, was focusing on reforms in rural development, which “will be possible quickly with the wholehearted cooperation and help of NRIs”.
He also addressed the issues of matrimonial disputes, properties, etc., pertaining to NRIs, and said all these would be taken up in the upcoming policy.
“The cooperation of NRIs will certainly the bring massive transformation in education, sports, healthcare sectors,” said Kuldeep, and added that the AAP government in Punjab would be available for NRIs to help build this policy I n a planned and futuristic manner. Nodal officers were being deputed in all districts for facilitation of NRI interaction for grievances related to civil and police administration, as well as quick resolution of the same.
Referring to the US-based NRIs Harmel Singh Shah, Gurkaran Singh Shah and Canada-based NRI Navtej Singh Shah who offered to construct a primary school in their father’s village in the memory of their grandfather Gurbaksh Singh Shah and grandmother Bibi Harbans Kaur, Kuldeep said, “Family members of a US-based NRI from Athoula village have already met me with their plans for construction of a smart primary school in the village at a cost of Rs 50 lakh.”
He added, “I have reached here within 36 hours to motivate the family and other NRIs, besides making an appeal to them to come forward for the all-round development of their respective villages. We are waiting for NRIs for such noble causes as the government will extend all possible assistance for much awaited transformation in rural Punjab.”
