Interesting The Rich Heritage Of Our Indian Culture

Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court stated that a “wife is expected to preserve the rich heritage of our Indian culture” and should not make unreasonable demands to separate from elderly in-laws after marriage.

On Monday, Justice Subhash Chand ruled in a revision petition filed by Rudra Narayan Ray, who had challenged the imposition of maintenance to be paid to his wife and minor son, that “it is obligatory on the part of a wife to serve her husband’s mother and maternal grandmother.”

Justice Chand delved deeply into the inter-personal relationship between a husband and wife and how it has evolved in today’s society. He stated that the petitioner’s wife had voluntarily refused to live with him and thus was not entitled to any maintenance.

The high court overturned the earlier order of the Family Court in Dumka, which had awarded Ray’s wife Rs 30,000 in monthly maintenance and increased the maintenance for their minor son from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000.
