The active caseload increased to 4,309 from 3,997 the previous day. The virus also claimed three new lives in the country, with one death each in Kerala, Karnataka, and Bihar.

Instances increased after a period of relatively low infection rates, with daily instances falling into the double digits until December 5. The advent of the coronavirus JN.1 subvariant, as well as colder temperatures, have both contributed to the recent increase in cases.

India has reported 4.50 crore (4,50,13,272) cases and 5,33,361 deaths since the COVID outbreak in January 2020.

Despite the recent surge in cases, India’s recovery rate remained high at 98.81%, with 4.44 crore (4,44,75,602) persons recovering from the disease.

The government has provided over 220.67 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccinations as part of its statewide vaccination campaign, according to the health ministry.

As the country prepares to ring in the new year, health officials remain vigilant, continuously monitoring the situation and advising residents to follow COVID-19 safety rules to avoid the virus from spreading further.

Experts have encouraged people with comorbidities and the elderly to avoid crowded locations and wear face masks, while claiming that there is no immediate need to implement public health measures.
